The MD 902 Explorer from VARIO is a 700 size scale helicopter. You can power this remote-controlled model helicopter with electric propulsion. McDonnell Douglas is the creator of the man-carrying version and MD Helicopters produces this helicopter. The MD 902 is an update version of the MD 900 with more powerful turbines. VARIO now presents the new version with electric power. Since it is much more powerful than its predecessor, VARIO also named it the MD 902. VARIO was the first to develop a NOTAR mechanics for model helicopter kits.
For VARIO's 700 MD902, resp. MD 900 we recommend a main rotor speed of approx. 1300 rpm. Electric drive sets from VARIO are already tuned to this head speed. The battery capacity should be at least 8,000 to 10,000 mAh.

NOTAR Electric Mechanics 1002/34
Our propulsion recommendation for this helicopter (Ord.No. 9010)! Electric motors are quiet, low in vibration, without exhaust gases and residual thrust. The blade slap noise sound of the rotor blades is more noticeable than with other types of propulsion and the result is a true-to-life impression in flight. For this electromechanical system we offer a drive set for 12S LiPos.
The NOTAR ("no tail rotor") system uses a fan inside the tailboom to build a high volume of low-pressure air. Benefits of the NOTAR system include increased safety (the tail rotor being vulnerable), and greatly reduced external noise as tail rotors on helicopters produce a lot of noise. NOTAR-equipped helicopters are among the quietest certified helicopters.
