The "big Lama" from VARIO is a 1150 size scale helicopter. You can power this remote-controlled model helicopter with gasoline (benzin), turbine or electric propulsion. Aérospatiale is the creator of the man-carrying version.

The hinged doors are large at 340 x 310 mm, and extra strength is obtained from integral corrugations in the GRP frame. The fuselage is of impressive length, but transport is eased by the removable tail boom: the entire boom can be removed after undoing just three screws.

For VARIO's 1150 Lama SA 315 B we recommend a maximum main rotor speed of 850 rpm. Electric drive sets from VARIO are already tuned to this head speed.

Select one of the following drive types:

Benzin Mechanics 470/22

The center section of fuselage kit Ord.No. 3300 is equipped with fixation points for fitting the benzin mechanics Ord.No. 470/22. This mechanics derives from the VARIO Bell 47. The benefit of a gasoline helicopter is a robust, easy-to-use engine for long flight times. The fuel is available at every petrol station (2-stroke mix). If the engine noise in flight does not disturb you, you will enjoy this classic drive system for model making.

Turbine Mechanics 1002/65

For turbine Jakadofsky Pro Edition, clutch bell 3 blade: t. 25 (Pro 5000: t. 24)

The Lama fuselage kit for turbine can be ordered with Ord.No. 3400 resp. 3401. In kit Ord.No. 3401, the mechanics Ord.No. 1002/65 is already included.

The turbine version fascinates by the smell of kerosene, a gently starting rotor, accompanied by the unmistakable sound of a turbine. Until the electrical power revolution in radio controlled model construction, turbines were the most powerful drives. In terms of flight times, turbines are still superior to electro-flight.

Electric Mechanics 470/22

Our propulsion recommendation for this helicopter (fuselage kit Ord.No. 3300)! Electric motors are quiet, low in vibration, without exhaust gases and residual thrust. The blade slap noise sound of the rotor blades is more noticeable than with other types of propulsion and the result is a true-to-life impression in flight. For this electromechanical system we offer a drive set for 12S LiPos.

With the fuselage of the Alouette II and the dynamics of the Alouette III, the full size SA 315 Lama has gained high esteem for operations in hot regions and high mountainous areas (India / Himalayas, South America / Andes). Apart from the higher skid landing gear without wheels, the immediately recognizable difference to the Alouette II is the electronic control panels in the cockpit, and the 3-blade tail rotor. To this day, the Lama is the only helicopter capable of transporting another helicopter of the same type, and in the summer of 1969, it achieved a record altitude of 12,442 meters.
